Coiled Baskets & Forms
The coiled baskets were created using a core of reed or seagrass and then wrapping it with either raffia, yarn, or thread. The spiral is started by bending the core tightly and wrapping it either raffia or natural fibers. Using a craft needle, the fiber is wrapped around the working row and then wrapped around the previous row. The tightly woven rows create light and shadows that become a part of the overall texture and design.
Mixed Media Coiled Forms
This is a collection of coiled woven forms created using handmade stoneware, original fused glass, or
Donna Dunnahoe's other fiber crafts as the foundation for the coiled weaving. Each crafted foundation created the inspiration for the coiled form.
Upcycled Coiled Weaving
Coiled woven forms and baskets made from plastic shopping bags and other plastic. The bags and plastic were cut into strips to wrap the reed or seagrass cores. The printed logos on the bags was used to create the texture and designs of the piece.
